Welcome to this George Orwell resource.

George Orwell (English journalist, political essayist and novelist), author of Animal Farm, Nineteen Eighty-Four (also known as 1984), A Clergyman's Daughter, and Down and Out in Paris and London among others, was one of the most important writers of the 20th century. His writing shows a contempt for all types of authority, and is marked by the political and social conditions of the time. He has had a lasting influence on writers worldwide.

In addition to his books, Orwell was also a journalist, book reviewer and essayist for the majority of his career, and Newsweek went so far as to say that Orwell "was the finest journalist of his day and the foremost architect of the English essay since Hazlitt."

I have been obsessed with Orwell's work ever since reading Nineteen Eighty-Four, which I believe to be one of the most important books ever written. If by reading Orwell's works, you experience even a fraction of the joy I have from them, this website will have achieved its goal.

I welcome comments and suggestions concerning this website (see the Contact page). I also welcome contributions in the way of essays which I can host on this site, and websites that I can add to the Links page. Thanks for popping by!
